An introductory note from the editor:  

We started publishing US based regional and national lists in 2012 in response to myriad emails from aspiring animators seeking advice regarding the "best" schools in the US. The US-centric lists have been well-received, so much so that we now receive frequent requests to publish rankings of international animation schools. ACR staff writer and Social Media Manager Tom Fronczak managed and authored this year's Top 100 International Animation Schools rankings. In preparing this year’s list, we surveyed over one hundred animation schools across the globe. Our end-goal is to give students access to ample information so they can make an informed decision about the school they choose to attend and the program they pursue.

They typically work for creative firms, production studios, publishing companies, web design companies, game design studios, and other similar environments. Many multimedia artists are self-employed, so they might work for an assortment of clients and in many different roles.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics offers a simple definition for multimedia artist. According to the Bureau, multimedia artists “create animation and visual effects for television, movies, video games, and other forms of media.” They work in advertising, animation, game design, film and video, graphic design, web design, sound production, and more.

Multimedia artists produce animated works, graphic designs, videos, images, and text for design firms, publishers, advertising agencies, and more. In addition to creative environments, multimedia artists are in demand in less obvious industries such as engineering, medicine, law, technology, and education. In the state of South Dakota, multimedia artists can expect to find a number of creative companies in major cities such as Sioux Falls and Rapid City. Opportunities in other areas can be found in these cities as well as other principal cities such as Aberdeen, Brookings, and Watertown.

There are more than three times as many animators -8840- employed in California as there are in the state with the second highest employment, New York, where there are 2770. Animators in California earn the highest median wage ($74,830) of all US States.

Oklahoma may not be the largest state in the U.S., but The Sooner State is still home to more than 3.5 million residents, making it the nation’s 28th largest state! Not only is Oklahoma a sizable state, it is also home to some of the largest cities in the U.S. Oklahoma City (population 579,999) is on the list of the country’s 30 largest states, and it is home to most of the state’s art and design venues. However, when it comes to art schools, the state’s best options can be found all over, from Idabel to Oklahoma City to Woodward.

In the state of Oregon, aspiring multimedia artists have the opportunity to work at a variety of creative agencies based in Portland (the state’s largest city), or they might find work in the areas of advertising, graphic design, or web design in other principal cities such as Eugene, Salem, Bend, or Gresham.
