Scope of Program:

Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology students at Appalachian State University complete coursework in design fundamentals, drawing, graphic communications, electronic imaging, digital preproduction, economics, finance, management, marketing, production and operation management, flexographic printing and packaging, job estimation and planning, 3D imaging and animation and web development. All students complete an internship and graphic communications seminar.

Graphic Design students complete foundation courses in design, drawing, digital imaging and art history, then continue with coursework in typography, motion graphics, sign, symbol and image, interaction design and professional practice. All students complete a senior studio and capstone project, create a senior portfolio and participate in the annual Art Expo.

A portfolio is required with the application to the Graphic Design program. Graphic Arts and Imaging Technology students must purchase an Apple Macintosh laptop or notebook computer. Art, need-based and merit scholarships are available.
