Scope of Program:

B. F. A. candidates at Brigham Young University must complete pre-application courses before applying to their chosen program.  Animation students focus on 3D computer graphics, figure drawing, 3D animation, character animation in 3D, Shader programming, gesture drawing, digital painting, business ethics, 2D animation production, storyboarding, 3D visual effects and special effects.  All students must pass a sophomore year review and create a final project.  Graphic Design students concentrate on drawing, 2D design, typography, art history, figure drawing, photography, illustration, computer applications, corporate identity design, publication design, advertising design and business practices for graphic designers.  All students complete a senior studio and create a final project.  Illustration students complete coursework in drawing, 2D design, figure drawing, history of illustration, art history, digital illustration, narrative, bookbinding, painting and special studies in illustration.  All students complete a senior studio and create a final project.

Brigham Young University is affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  All students are required to take courses in LDS religious studies.  A portfolio is required with the application to the Animation and Graphic Design programs.  Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available.
