Scope of Program:
Creative Media students at Champlain College may choose from several specializations, including Game Media and Interaction Design. Game Media students concentrate on game history and development, visual and digital fundamentals, form and color, making art and aesthetic expression. Students interested in 2D Game Media studies complete coursework in drawing, painting, concept painting and drawing for game design. Students specializing in 3D Game Media focus on 3D art, 3D modeling, 3D animation and game environments. All students create a portfolio and capstone project and participate in Salon courses, which include art criticism, analysis and collaborative projects.
Graphic Design and Digital Media students focus on form and color, digital artwork, typography, photography, art history, drawing, design and communication, publication design, web design and visual creativity and meaning. All students participate in a senior seminar and create a capstone project and portfolio.
Game Art and Animation students concentrate on visual digital fundamentals, game art and animation, game history and development, anatomy and perspective drawing, drawing for game development, 3D art, digital interactive design, game production, 3D modeling, concept painting and digital 2D motion graphics. All students create a capstone project, senior production and senior portfolio. Game Design students focus on visual digital fundamentals, cognitive psychology, computer theory, game history and development, game technology, game design, game production, level design and interactive storytelling. All students create a capstone project, portfolio and senior production.
M. F. A. candidates in Emergent Media complete coursework in emergent landscape, digital image making, programming languages, human interfaces and digital storytelling. All students participate in collaborative production experiences and design seminars and create a thesis project.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. program, Game Art and Animation and Game Design programs. Merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are graduate fellowships and teaching assistantships.
