Scope of Program:

DePaul University offers undergraduates a wide array of animation- and game-related majors.  Students in the Animation program focus on visual design, animation, screenwriting, figure drawing, digital camera production, motion graphics and storyboarding.  All students complete a final animation project.  Students in the Art, Media and Design program take core courses in studio art, photography and design, then choose either the Art and Design, Media Arts or Fine Arts Concentration.  Media Arts students may further specialize in either Photography or Electronic Media.  Computer Game Development students may concentrate in Production and Design or Game Programming.  All students complete core coursework in game design and development, C++ programming, visual and level design.  Students then specialize, with Production and Design students studying game production, 3D animation and game modification and Game Programming students studying computer systems, physics for game development, action games programming and real-time graphics.  All students in the Computer Game Development program complete a game development project.

Computer Graphics and Motion Design students may choose either the Developer or Technical Designer Concentration.  Students in the Developer Concentration focus on C and C++ programming, discrete mathematics, animation, computer graphics, rendering and technical writing, while Technical Designer Concentration participants study scripting for interactive media, animation, discrete mathematics, hand prototyping and user interface development.  Graphic Arts students complete coursework in visual design, Photoshop and Illustrator, animation, typography, editing, web design and motion graphics.

Master's Degree candidates in Computer Game Development concentrate on C++ programming, computer systems, data structures, game design, game programming, game engine programming, artificial intelligence and multi-player game development.  Students participate in a capstone studio project.  Computer Graphics and Motion Technology candidates choose either the Visualizer, Developer or Technical Director Concentration, taking appropriate courses in such areas as usability engineering, image processing, hardware shading, computer animation, rendering, desktop databases, data analysis and smooth surface modeling.
