Scope of Program:

Students at Maine College of Art spend their first two years in the Foundation program.  Foundation students take courses in art history, drawing, color theory, 2D and 3D design and introductory courses in their major study areas.  Graphic Design students then focus on design history, typography, letterforms, web design, information design, expressive narratives and visual identity systems.  Illustration students concentrate on illustration studio work, including digital illustration, picture book and graphic novel illustration and professional practices.  New Media students complete coursework in digital imaging and film, photography, stop-motion, Maya, performance art and expressive narratives.

A portfolio is required with the Maine College of Art application.  All students participate in portfolio reviews, critiques and mentoring sessions.  Scholarships are available.
