Scope of Program:

Undergraduate students at Memphis College of Art complete the Foundations program, which includes courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, digital basic and idea, process and criticism, before continuing with coursework in their majors.  Digital Media students focus on digital imaging, animation, dynamic imaging, computer graphics, art history, 2D and 3D animation and sound acquisition and editing.
Graphic Design students concentrate on design systems, identity systems, typography, 2D and 3D design, letterforms, emotional branding, advertising design and package design.  All students create a thesis exhibition.

Illustration students complete coursework in drawing for illustrators, visual essay, illustrated media, serialization and digital distribution, comics and picture books, production and publication, professional applications and portfolio and presentation.
Animation students take courses in computer graphics, animation techniques, 2D and 3D animation, dynamic imaging, sound acquisition and editing and digital cinema.  All students complete a senior studio and create a final project.

M. F. A. candidates complete courses in art history, theory and criticism, cultural and visual studies and aesthetics.  All students create a thesis and related exhibition.
A portfolio is required with the application to both the B. F. A. and M. F. A. programs.  Art and need-based scholarships are available.  Tennessee residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
