Scope of Program:
B. A. and B. F. A. candidates in New Mexico Highlands University's Media Arts program complete core coursework in visual concepts, videography, digital imaging, typography, multimedia principles and audio for video before continuing with specialized Media Arts courses.  They then focus on conceptual imaging and methods, digital photography, design for the Web and advanced media projects, choosing one of four emphases: Visual Communication, Multimedia and Interactivity, Video and Audio or Photographic Imaging.  Students participate in a senior colloquium, create a portfolio and, if in the B. F. A. program, complete an internship and create a B. F. A. exhibition.

M. A. and M. S. candidates in Media Arts and Computer Science structure their programs around either an art or mathematics and computer science focus, depending on which degree they plan to pursue.  All students complete foundation courses in media arts and computer science and either write a thesis or complete a field project.  Available elective courses include game design, multimedia, web design, physical computing, video animation and effects and experimental video production.

Applicants to the M. A. and M. S. programs must submit a portfolio.  Media Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are graduate assistantships.  Residents of New Mexico who are eligible for Pell Grants may apply for the State Student Incentive Grant.
