Scope of Program:

Savannah College of Art and Design has four campuses (Savannah, Atlanta, Hong Kong and Lacoste, France) as well as a well-regarded online degree program.  SCAD's extensive, arts-oriented degree programs include B. A. and B. F. A. options at the undergraduate level, a 45 credit hour M. A. program and 90 credit hour M. F. A. program at the graduate level.  Most, but not all, degree programs are available online.

Undergraduate animation students take courses in action analysis, 2D and 3D animation, concept development, screen design, character setup and animation and animation production.  All students complete a senior project.  Graphic design students focus on art history, computer art, graphic design, typography, vector and raster graphics and digital design.  Illustration students concentrate on art history, drawing and design, editorial illustration, electronic illustration, illustration materials and techniques and book or children's book illustration.  Interactive Design and Game Development students take coursework in digital design aesthetics, modeling, materials and lighting, interactive design, C++ programming, environment and level design and game design critique and analysis.  Motion Media Design students concentrate on typography, motion media, concepts and storyboarding, time-based typography, multiplatform media brand packaging and portfolio development.

Graduate degree candidates in animation take coursework in character animation and setup, computer-generated modeling and design, 3D animation and environment look development.  Students complete a collaborative project and create a portfolio.  Graphic Design candidates focus on research methods, typography, integrated design media, print and digital studio and 3D graphics.  Illustration students concentrate on illustration and drawing strategies, influences in illustration, drawing, illustration marketing and contemporary art.  Students complete directed and final projects.  Illustration Design students take courses in both graphic design and illustration, including typographic communications, integration design media, typography and print studios, design studio and digital studio.  All students complete a final project.  Interactive Design and Game Development students focus on game design perspective, game art methods, character development, scripting, environment for games and game design documentation. Students also complete a final project.  Motion Media Design students study script design, typography, motion analytics and applications, contemporary art, cinematography and editing, interactive web design and dynamic typography; they also complete a final project.  In addition to these requirements, M. F. A. candidates research and write a thesis, create a studio portfolio and, in some programs, complete an internship.

Undergraduate applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio, which may be used to apply for scholarships, although an application portfolio is not required.  Graduate applicants must submit a portfolio.  Georgia residents are highly encouraged to apply for HOPE Scholarships and Tuition Equalization Grants.  Savannah College of Art and Design offers scholarships and grants for entering and returning students, as well as graduate fellowships and travel scholarships.
