1111. University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida

The University of South Florida (USF) was established in 1956. It is home to nearly 48,000 students enrolled in 14 colleges, across three campuses. The College of the Arts, School of Art and Art History offers several programs for aspiring animators. Options include BA and BFA degrees in Studio Art with a Focus in Video, Animation, and Digital Arts. 

12. Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana

Established in 1869, Purdue University is home to 38,788 students enrolled in more than 200 majors across 10 academic colleges and schools. The College of Technology offers several programs for aspiring animators. Offerings include a BS in Computer Graphics Technology with a Specialization in Computer Animation, an MS in Computer Graphics Technology, and a 5-Year BS/MS in Computer Graphics Technology.

1313. Montclair State University, Montclair, New Jersey

Montclair State University was established in 1908 as the New Jersey State Normal School at Montclair. The school is home to 20,022 students enrolled 300 programs across six colleges and schools. The College of Arts, Department of Art and Design offers a variety of art and design programs for artists of all kinds. Programs for aspiring animators include a BFA in Animation/Illustration. Students may choose the Animation or Illustration Track.

1414. Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Louisiana State University (LSU) opened its doors on January 2, 1860. The school is home to more than 29,000 students, including 4,400 graduate students and 1,500 international students.  LSU offers more than 200 programs across 11 colleges and schools. The LSU College of Art and Design is home to 500 students and offers BFA and MFA degrees in Digital Art. According to LSU, the programs highlight “modeling and animation using 3D objects and spaces in a virtual environment.”

Founded in 1958, California State University Northridge (CSUN) is home to 38,310 students enrolled in more than 140 programs across nine colleges. The Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication, Department of Art offers several programs for aspiring animators. Offerings include BA and MA degrees in Visual Arts with a Concentration in Animation

1616. Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan

Established in 1849, Eastern Michigan University (EMU) is home to more than 23,000 students enrolled in more than 200 majors, minors and concentrations across six colleges and schools. The College of Technology, School of Visual and Built Environments is home to the Simulation, Animation and Gaming program or “SAG.” The program, which emphasizes Animation, Modeling, Lighting, Rigging, and Camera Work in 3D, leads to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with a Focus in Simulation, Animation, and Gaming.

1717. New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Founded in 1888 as Las Cruces College, New Mexico State University is home to 17,651 students enrolled in 276 programs from the Certificate to the Doctorate level. Programs are offered through eight colleges and schools. The College of Arts and Sciences is home to the Creative Media Institute for Film and Digital Arts (CMI). The Institute offers a Bachelor of Creative Media that prepares students for a career in Digital Filmmaking and Animation and Visual Effects.

Established in 1918. Ball State University is home to around 21,000 students enrolled in more than 300 programs across 10 colleges. The College of Fine Art, School of Art offers several programs for aspiring animators. Programs include BFA and MFA degrees with an Emphasis in Animation.

19. University of Colorado - Denver, Denver, Colorado

Established in 1912 as an extension of the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Colorado Denver is home to 18,270 students enrolled in 130 programs across 13 colleges and schools. The College of Arts and Media, Department of Visual Arts is home to the animation program. Options include a BFA with an Emphasis in 3D Graphics and Animation. 

2020. Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania

Founded in 1857, Edinboro University is home to 6,837 students enrolled 135 degree programs across five colleges and schools. Housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences is the Art Department. The Department offers one program for aspiring animators—a BFA in Applied Media Arts, Cinema (Animation, Computer Animation, Film & Video).
