Georgia’s impressive collection 130+ historic colleges and universities attracts students from all over the U.S. and overseas. Georgia’s post-secondary institutions can be found across the state from Athens to Woodstock, however, some of the oldest schools in the state are located in Athens, Atlanta, Decatur, and Macon. In addition to having “historic” status, many Georgia colleges have “top” status. This means, they make regular appearances on the nation’s “Top Schools” lists.

While select schools earn a spot on the list based on popular issues such as cost and convenience, several other factors also carry a lot of weight. These factors include job placement services, types of student clubs and organizations, intramural sports, cultural opportunities, labs/facilities, student body, and even Greek life. Student groups, bloggers, alumni, and education groups create these lists each year to help students make wise decisions about which school to attend.
