Scope of Program:

Animation students at The University of the Arts complete first-year courses in drawing, visual thinking and art history.  They continue with coursework in storytelling, video production, 2D motion graphics, animation movement, screenwriting, digital image creation and editing, 3D animation and sound design.  All students create a junior animation piece and an animation thesis.
Graphic Design students take first-year courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, time-motion and art history.  They then focus on typography, descriptive drawing, digital interactivity techniques, electronic media/production, letterform design, design systems, communication design history and font design.  All students participate in a communications studio and design studio and create a senior project and portfolio.

Illustration students concentrate on drawing, 2D and 3D design, art history, time-motion, design methods, photography, illustration methods, sequential format, figure anatomy, typography, figurative communication and figure utilization.  All students create a portfolio.

Multimedia students may select either the Interactive Design or Motion Design concentration.  Students in both concentrations complete coursework in visual communication, video production, motion graphics, MIDI and electronic technology, media industries, storytelling and interface design.  Interactive Design students then focus on game play, interactive programming, perception, human/computer interface, game design, interactive installation, webcasting, architectonics and physical computing.  Motion Design students concentrate on cinema arts, motion graphics, interactive narrative, 2D motion graphics, photography, history of communication design, interactive installation and design systems.  Several minors are available, including e-music, game design and typography.

All students must purchase an Apple MacBook Pro laptop computer through the university.  A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. program.  Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available.
