Scope of Program:

Students in the Graphic Design and New Art Media and Visual Arts programs at the University of North Dakota begin with core coursework in design, visual persuasion, drawing and art history.  Graphic Design and New Art Media students continue with courses in printmaking, photography, time design and digital media, graphic design foundations, history of graphic design, business systems and campaigns, visual identity and advanced graphic design.  All students complete an internship and create a B. F. A. exhibition.  Students emphasizing Time-Based Media in the Visual Arts program focus on concepts of art, studio arts, digital video, animation, motion graphics and alternative presentation of media.  All students create a B. F. A. exhibition.

Computer Science students who choose the Game Development and Computer Animation specialization concentrate on linear algebra, physics, calculus, systems programming, algorithms and data structures, operating systems, software engineering, user interface design, computer graphics design, visual arts and digital electronics.  Graphic Design Technology students concentrate on computer-aided design and drafting, graphic design and print production, photography, PC hardware and emerging technologies, graphic design software and multimedia production.  All students complete a senior capstone project.  Graphic Design Technology students also complete the Entrepreneurial Studies Certificate as part of their program.

Students from Minnesota may apply for tuition reciprocity.  Students from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming may apply for tuition discounts through the Western Undergraduate Exchange program.  Students from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin may apply for tuition discounts through the Midwest Student Exchange Program.  Students from Manitoba and Saskatchewan are eligible for tuition discounts.

Merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are cultural diversity tuition waivers.  Applicants to the Graphic Design and New Art Media and Visual Arts programs must submit a portfolio with the application.
