Degrees Offered: B. F. A. Graphic Design; M. F. A. Studio Art with Concentration in Graphic Design

Tuition Information:  Undergraduate residents $7,224, nonresidents $24,066; graduate residents $8,332, nonresidents $25,162 for the 2011 – 2012 school year.  Tuition does not include resident fees of $1,172 or nonresident fees of $1,742 per year.

Scope of Program:

B. F. A. candidates in Graphic Design at the University of Tennessee Knoxville must complete the Art Core, which includes coursework in studio art, drawing, 4D studio art and art history, and pass a sophomore portfolio review to be admitted to the major.  Accepted students focus on typography, layout, graphic design production, typography and imagery, computer-enhanced graphic design, visual problem solving, studio arts and signs, symbols, marks and identity systems.  All students complete a graphic design seminar and practicum.

M. F. A. candidates complete coursework in art history and graphic design studio, participate in graduate seminars and create a project in lieu of thesis.  All students must pass a second-year graduate evaluation before beginning their final projects.
Undergraduate Graphic Design students must complete two foreign language courses.  Art lab fees may apply.  A portfolio is required with the application to the M. F. A. program.  Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are graduate assistantships.  Tennessee residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
