Scope of Program:

Graphic Arts and New Media students at Viterbo University complete the Studio Art Foundations program, which includes coursework in drawing, color studies, 2D and 3D design and art history. Students must pass freshman and sophomore portfolio reviews to continue in the program; they may apply to the B. F. A. program during their sophomore year of study. Accepted students continue with coursework in design, drawing, art history, studio arts, digital media, typography, media, technology and culture, digital video, advertising design, photography, graphic arts and media workshop and new media workshop. All students complete a research paper studio and create a senior exhibition.

Visual Communication students complete the Communications Core, including courses in psychology, rhetorical studies, sociology, communication theory, digital media, quantitative research methods, layout design, communication law and ethics, web design and development and computer illustration. Students may choose the Communication Design or Digital Media Emphasis. Communication Design students focus on typography, web design and animation, illustration and advertising design. Digital Media students concentrate on digital video, topics in digital media, 3D modeling and animation and advanced production lab. Students in both emphases complete an internship and create a portfolio.

Viterbo University is a Roman Catholic university; all students must complete four mission seminars and 25 credit hours in theology, philosophy and analysis and reasoning. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available.
