Scope of Program:

Graphic Design students at Watkins College of Art, Design and Film may choose either the Illustration or Web Design concentration.  All students complete foundation coursework in drawing, 3D and 4D design, and graphic design, then continue with courses in history of graphic design, typography, computer studio, publication software, art history, branding and corporate identity and experimental type.  All students must pass a portfolio review prior to enrolling in upper division courses.  Illustration students focus on illustration process, character development, visual narration and sequential imagery and participate in courses taught by visiting illustrators.  Web Design students concentrate on web development, HTML, CSS, Flash, jQuery and current web design software applications.  All students create a senior portfolio and exhibition.

All applicants must complete application exercises in drawing and collage; they may also submit a portfolio with the application.  Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available.  Tennessee residents are encouraged to apply for state grants and scholarships.
