Overview: Indiana may represent one of the roads less traveled for aspiring animators, but this state has a number of benefits for individuals interested in breaking into the industry without breaking the bank. Indiana is home to 106 affordable colleges and universities. These colleges offer opportunities to train for a career in animation and to teach. A number of animators in the state teach, but many also work in the film and video industry, advertising, computer design, and gaming.

Indiana is home to more than 100 Title IV degree-granting institutions. To become a Title IV school, an institution must have accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, they must be in business for at least 2 years, they must sign a participation agreement with the Department, they must grant an associate's degree or higher, and they must offer a program of at least 300 clock hours in length. These requirements make Indiana’s 100+ Title IV schools eligible federal financial-aid programs. This makes them more accessible to students with financial need.

Indianapolis Art Scene

It’s easy to be an artist in Indianapolis. While the population here has increased by 23 percent since 2000, it still hasn’t made it to the one million mark. This means, the city is much smaller than the nation’s top ten cities. This is a good thing for animators that are interested in a slower pace, but with decent opportunities to make a buck. Besides it’s small size, Indianapolis is one of the least expensive “large” cities to live in. This is a plus for animators and artists that are just starting out.
