11. California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, California 
When the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music and the Chouinard Art Institute merged in 1961 with the help of none other than Walt and Roy Disney, it became one of the most coveted artist’s communities on the west coast. Dubbed California Institute of Arts (better known as CalArts), the school quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the top ten schools for aspiring animators and America’s top college for students in the arts.

Since the days of America’s revolutionary founding, Boston’s culture of innovation has fostered and produced some of the country’s preeminent thought-leaders. It should come as no surprise, then, that one of the city’s most beloved institutions of higher learning continues to attract top talent (both faculty and students) eager to reach new heights. Northeastern University is home to a plethora of top-ranked departments including a Game Design program that rivals any.

MassArt

Massachusetts College of Art & Design, better known as MassArt, was founded in the latter half of the nineteenth century to serve as a training school for drawing teachers in Boston. Today, it’s a publicly funded art school which has grown to encompass a plethora of top ranked departments including an animation program rivaling any other.

Emerson College

Located in the heart of Beantown, Emerson College’s history as a leading northeastern private institution spans more than a century. Its BA and BFA in Animation & Motion Media programs encompass many areas including computer and film animation, visual effects, compositing and motion graphics. Indeed, one of the best aspects of the program at Emerson is its integrated approach to the craft where students utilize a variety of mediums to test the bounds.
