Detroit Art Scene

Detroit might not be the first city that comes to mind when you think about animation, but it should be! The city of Detroit recently welcomed a new addition to the downtown area. Located at the Ford Field complex, Wonderstruck Animation Studios is one of the Midwest’s largest digital creation studios. Modeled after traditional Hollywood studios, Wonderstruck has plans to create 413 new jobs over the next five years in the areas of animation, audio, 3D graphics, visual effects, compositing, and more. The company has already attracted talent from Sony Imageworks, Dreamworks, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, and ILM.

Animation Careers in Michigan

Overview: The state of Michigan has its fair share of industries that are actively recruiting animators. Some of the world’s top advertising agencies have offices in Michigan and several noted production studios can be found in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Warren. Michigan is also home to dozens of colleges, universities, and technical schools that offer multi-media art and animation programs. This means, animators with an interest in teaching may find opportunities in the art, film, or computer science departments of Michigan’s 105 colleges and universities.
