New York Graphic Design Schools:

York is now home to more than 304 Title IV degree-granting institutions according to the most recent Institute of Education Sciences (IES) report. Title IV schools are approved for Title IV federal financial-aid programs, but not without going through a rigorous approval process first. To become a Title IV school, an institution must (1) have accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, (2) offer a program of at least 300 clock hours in length (3) have signed a participation agreement with the Department, (4) grant an associate's degree or higher, and (5) have been in business for at least 2 years.

Undoubtedly the ridiculously-long hours worked by animators take a toll on their love lives—which might be why husband-wife duo Bert and Zeea Moss started an animation studio together; a venture that has turned into a years-long take-your-spouse-to-work day. Their joint-venture brainchild, The Untitled Project, is now a successful boutique animation studio in the Big Apple.

Bert Moss assumed the position of President & Lead Animator, and Zeea usurped the role of VP and Second-in-command of the animation department. And together the two make great animation.

Detroit Art Scene

Detroit might not be the first city that comes to mind when you think about animation, but it should be! The city of Detroit recently welcomed a new addition to the downtown area. Located at the Ford Field complex, Wonderstruck Animation Studios is one of the Midwest’s largest digital creation studios. Modeled after traditional Hollywood studios, Wonderstruck has plans to create 413 new jobs over the next five years in the areas of animation, audio, 3D graphics, visual effects, compositing, and more. The company has already attracted talent from Sony Imageworks, Dreamworks, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney, and ILM.

Overview: The state of Washington is home to one of the most progressive cities in the nation—Seattle. The city houses the Seattle Film Office and Washington Film Works, which help keep the film and video industry competitive through incentives and tax breaks. Although other principle cities in Washington have much to offer aspiring animators, Seattle seems to be the place where most artists eventually settle.

Animation Careers in Michigan

Overview: The state of Michigan has its fair share of industries that are actively recruiting animators. Some of the world’s top advertising agencies have offices in Michigan and several noted production studios can be found in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Warren. Michigan is also home to dozens of colleges, universities, and technical schools that offer multi-media art and animation programs. This means, animators with an interest in teaching may find opportunities in the art, film, or computer science departments of Michigan’s 105 colleges and universities.
