Scope of Program:
The Art Center College of Design is a U. N.-designated Non-Governmental Organization as well as a design college. Through its Designmatters program, the Art Center partners with communities and governments to solve problems through design. The Art Center College of Design's curriculum includes a strong emphasis on the student's major rather than upon foundation coursework, allowing for more hands-on experience. Entertainment Design students focus on design fundamentals, visual communication, digital landscape, drawing, character design, story telling and architectural design. Students complete a senior project and develop a portfolio. Graphic Design students learn about digital design, typography, motion design, graphic and information design and identity systems. Portfolio development is an important component of the Graphic Design program. Illustration students choose one of four tracks: Entertainment Arts, Fine Art Painting, Illustration Design or Motion Illustration. Students have the opportunity to study in London.
The Art Center College of Design requires all applicants to submit a portfolio. Campus visits are highly recommended. Scholarships based on both need and "visual and academic ability" are available, as is work/study.
