We all know that Harvard, Yale, the University of Chicago, Stanford, and MIT are all at the top of the list of World’s Best Universities. The results are everywhere! This not the case when it comes to other schools and programs. What this means is, it might take some digging to find out about the best schools for say, art, animation, or other similar majors. Fortunately, a number of ranking agencies exist, so with a little research, you can find out which schools are the best.
To arrive at certain results, college ranking agencies consider a number of factors that may or may not be at the top of the average student’s list. Factors outside of cost, convenience, and popularity are more important to ranking agencies when it comes to evaluating the quality of education at any given school. For example, many people mistakenly believe that a school with thousands of students is the best school, while some college ranking agencies may see this as a “lack of student selectivity.”
When it comes to determining which schools are the best, this is only one factor used by ranking agencies. In addition to student selectivity, ranking agencies may examine program offerings (variety and number), faculty resources (such as student-faculty ratio), financial resources, graduation and retention rates, and peer assessment.
