The graphic design industry has transformed into one of the fastest growing and most competitive industries in the world. Advances in technology, the rise of social media, and the competitiveness of both the business and job markets have created a high demand for a graphic designer than can do it all. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that graphic designers with web design and animation skills will have the best opportunities in today’s market. Moreover, by 2018, the Bureau expects a 13 percent increase in the population of professionals in this field.
More good news. Colleges and universities across the U.S. have taken notice and now offer some of the best graphic design schools in world. They can be found across the country from Maine to New Mexico. Some are small, and have only a few hundred students enrolled, while other schools are home to thousands of aspiring artists and designers of all kinds.
In Nevada, several of the states’ 25+ accredited schools fit the bill. These schools made the best schools list based on factors such as financial resources, program offerings, faculty resources, peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, and student selectivity. Princeton Review, U.S. News & World Report, and Forbes are some of the world’s top college ranking organizations. They assess factors such as these, and others, to determine which schools deserve a spot on the list.
Although Nevada doesn’t have as many graphic design schools as California, New York, or Chicago, the state is a shining example of how quantity doesn’t always win over quality. Nevada’s aspiring graphic designers have the opportunity to choose from several degree levels including a Bachelor of Science (B.S.), a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), and a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.). Keep in mind that while the U.S. has many graphic design programs to choose from, M.F.A. programs are coveted.
