Berlin’s film and animation schools, animation studios, visual effects companies, film studios, creative agencies, and interactive studios all offer the opportunity to learn or intern at a local studio in order to gain the valuable skills and experience needed to help you land a job in the industry in Berlin or back home. And about those jobs. Besides the opportunities listed, we found listings for more than 1,000 openings across Germany from Animation/Games to Animation/Layout Artist to 3D Animator. But first things first. You have to get your foot in the door as an intern.
You can get the ball rolling by checking with your program coordinator and the study abroad office at your school. While doing research on your own is never a bad thing (more on this in a sec), your program coordinator and the study abroad office are experienced with helping match students with the right overseas studio. They will also have access to a variety of resources and can provide plenty of advice about accommodations, financing your trip, local customs, and requirements.
If you want to do some research on your own, the following are a just few places to look. Also, take a look at some information we found about visa requirements. This will help get you started on the legal requirements you must meet to intern in Berlin.

Students may obtain a Student Application Visa (if you have not received notification of admission to a university or foundation program) or a Student Visa (if you have received notification of admission to a university or foundation program). Both visas are valid for three months. If you decide to stay longer, Student Application Visa holders may extend their visa up to a maximum of six months. Student Visa holders wishing to extend their stay will have to apply for an extended residence permit at the Alien Registration Office in their university town.
