Scope of Program:
California College of the Arts’ Bachelor of Fine Arts degree students take core courses in drawing and 2D, 3D and 4D studio. The first year program also includes field trips, projects and a portfolio review. Animation students focus on drawing, filmmaking, interactive media, storytelling, motion graphics, sound and character design. A senior project is required. Graphic Design students concentrate on basic and advanced graphic design, typography and interactive design. They must either complete an internship or work for Sputnik, the in-house design studio. Illustration students learn about drawing, illustration and illustration tools and related art electives.
Master’s degree candidates focus on design history, research, writing and studio applications. A thesis is required. Graduate-level Design students are required to have a MacBook Pro laptop. Teaching assistantships are available.
California College of the Arts offers merit- and need-based scholarships to both first-year and transfer students. Study abroad programs are available. Undergraduate- and graduate-level applicants must submit a portfolio as part of the application process.
