Scope of Program:
Art students at Central Michigan University who choose the Graphic Design concentration must apply to the major after taking at least three foundation courses and creating a portfolio. Foundation courses include drawing, 2D and 3D design, color, figure drawing, contemporary issues in art and art history. Upon acceptance to the major, Graphic Design students concentrate on logo design, typography, digital imaging, web design, motion graphics and professional practices. All students complete an internship and capstone project.
Graduate students in the School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts may concentrate in Electronic Media Management or Electronic Media Production. Students may complete a thesis and oral examinations or conduct an independent research project and orals. Electronic Media Management students complete coursework in electronic media management, mass communication, electronic media law and electronic media sales. Electronic Media Production students focus on mass communication, multimedia audio post-production, screenwriting, and advanced electronic cinematography.
Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Michigan residents are encouraged to apply for state and local scholarships. Teaching assistantships and fellowships are available for graduate students.
