Founded in 1942, FDU is an independent, not-for-profit institution that serves 12,000 students, making it New Jersey’s largest private university. The Film and Animation program is offered at the Florham Campus.
Scope of Program:
Fairleigh Dickinson University’s (FDU) Becton College of Arts and Sciences is home to a Visual & Performing Arts Department that offers a competitive animation program for students interested in working in the film or game design industries. Options include a BA in Film and Animation with a Concentration in Animation or Video Game Animation. According to the Department, students interested in 3D computer animation, special effects, motion graphics and compositing learn the foundations necessary to produce high-quality 3D digital artwork and animations. Coursework emphasizes the visual design component as well as the software necessary to create sophisticated computer artwork and animations.
Besides a comprehensive animation curriculum, the BA program highlights coveted internships at major studios such as DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Viacom, Blue Sky Studios, and MTV, and classes taught by experienced instructors who are also working professionals in 3D computer animation, interactive multimedia, motion graphics, special effects, game design and animation, web design and graphic design.
Many graduates of the Film and Animation program at FDU have gone on to secure permanent positions at Blue Sky Studios, MTV, DreamWorks, Viacom, Nickelodeon, Telltale Games, High Five Games, Blindhack Software, Chasin 3D, Skyworks Interactive, Pixel Light Digital Media, and many others.
