Scope of Program:
Fitchburg State University offers concentrations in Interactive Media and Graphic Design through its Communications Media program. All Communications Media students take introductory communications media courses before specializing in their concentration areas. Graphic Design students focus on illustration, typography, interface design, motion graphics, publication design, photography and computer graphic design. Interactive Media students complete coursework in Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, game design, DVD authoring, interface design and interactive project design. All students must complete an internship and may choose to participate in an annual juried exhibition.
Fitchburg State University requires all students to purchase a laptop computer; Communications Media students are strongly encouraged to purchase a MacBook. A portfolio is not required for admission, but applicants are encouraged to write a well-worded application essay, as admission to the Communications Media major is highly selective. Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Eligible Massachusetts residents are encouraged to apply for state grants and scholarships.
