Full Sail University aims to prepare students for the working world by offering hands-on degree programs in entertainment media and emerging technologies. The university’s bachelor’s degree in User Experience is no exception: The online program uses industry-standard workflows to explore the factors that influence UX design.
That commitment to real-world education has earned the program accolades: The User Experience bachelor’s degree was included on Animation Career Review’s 2024 list of the Top 25 Undergraduate UX/UI/HCI Schools and Colleges in the U.S.
With classes that cover UX tools, user research, prototype creation, and more, this program can help prepare students to work in areas like design, animation, gaming, programming, and beyond.
Hands-On Learning in the Online User Experience Program
Full Sail’s User Experience bachelor’s degree offers a range of classes that teach real-world skills.
“For example, in the User Experience Project & Portfolio I class, students develop a UX case study demonstrating their understanding of the user experience design process,” says Rebecca Leis, Full Sail’s User Experience Program Director. “The final case study includes user research, planning, and a UI prototype for a website landing page, mobile application, or mobile game app. Students are asked to complete this case study for a real-world company that sells first aid kits for new parents.”
Additional examples of real-world learning in the User Experience program include:
Psychology of Perception in UX: Students put together an interactive prototype in Figma, an interface design tool. The prototypes must engage four different sensory systems (like sight, sound, touch, and smell) for a unique design experience.
Project & Portfolio IV: Students create a detailed case study with a prototype for an existing game-related product. Through class activities, projects, and discussions, students develop in-depth research questions, formulate hypotheses, and determine suitable data-collection methods to evaluate the product.
Other notable classes in the User Experience bachelor’s program include:
Introduction to User Experience: This class covers the primary design processes and workflow that students can expect in professional UX roles.
UX Research Approaches: Students learn how to use empirical observations to derive hypotheses, test predictions, and analyze the results to formulate recommendations for improving an existing UX product.
UX/UI for Gaming Platforms: Students in this class analyze the usability and visual design of game products across mobile, console, and PC platforms. They also create a prototype for those platforms that is based on human-centered design.
