Scope of Program:
New Media students at Indiana University South Bend begin their studies with core coursework in computer art and design, photography, Photoshop, digital video, audio technology, computer art and design and 2D design. They then specialize in Graphic Design, Informatics or a Group Focus such as Music, Video and Motion Media or Design. Group Focus students must also complete a minor in a related subject area. B. F. A. candidates create and present a senior exhibition.
Informatics students concentrate on social informatics, informational infrastructure and human-computer interaction. They also select a cognate area (area of specialization). New Media/Arts cognate students take courses in multimedia arts and technology. All Informatics students complete either a capstone project or thesis.
Prospective freshmen interested in the B. F. A. program are strongly encouraged to contact the Ernestine M. Raclin School of the Arts to discuss entrance procedures for their chosen program prior to applying to Indiana University South Bend. Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Indiana residents should apply for state scholarships as well as university scholarships.
