Scope of Program:
Kansas State University offers both a B. A. and B. F. A. program in Art. Students may apply for the Digital Arts or Graphic Design concentration after completing 24 credit hours of study. A portfolio review is part of this application process. Pre-major students take foundation courses in art history, 2D and 3D design, drawing and figure drawing. Digital arts students continue with courses in digital environment, computer imaging, computer animation, new media and computer art and design. Graphic design students focus on visual communication, digital techniques, computer imaging and typography. B. F. A. students must create either an exhibition or a portfolio.
Kansas State University also offers a M.F.A. program in Graphic Design. A portfolio must be submitted with the M.F.A. application. Students concentrate on art history, typography, digital photography, 3D animation, computer art and design and graphic design history. Student must create a thesis exhibition and pass oral examinations.
Portfolio scholarships are available, as are merit and need-based scholarships, several of which are restricted either to Kansas residents or to out-of-state residents. Graduate students may apply for teaching assistantships and fellowships.
