Scope of Program:
Loyola Marymount University is a small, Catholic, liberal arts university. LMU's Animation and Graphic Design programs combine a liberal arts foundation with a solid grounding in art and design. Animation students create personal films during their freshman and junior years and participate in group projects during their sophomore and senior years. Seniors also create a senior thesis. Animation coursework includes history of animation, drawing, storyboarding, figure drawing, 3D computer animation, screenwriting and interactive and character animation. Seniors may participate in an internship. An application portfolio is required. Sophomores will undergo portfolio assessments before continuing with upper division coursework.
Graphic Design students study under the auspices of the Studio Arts program. Graphic Design coursework includes drawing, typography, 3D design, visual thinking, traditional and digital illustration, information design and motion graphics. A senior thesis is required. Students participate in the ARTsmart community service program, in which art students combine their talents to create art and visual culture programs and then bring them to schools in the local community.
Academic and need-based scholarships are available. Study abroad programs offer semester- and year-long opportunities as well as summer study experiences.
