Scope of Program:
Graphic Design and Illustration students in Marywood University's B. F. A. program begin with foundation courses in drawing, 2D design and color, 3D design, figure drawing, figure modeling and painting. Students must pass a first year portfolio review to continue in the major. Graphic Design students focus on art history, visual concepts, photography, graphic design history, web design and interactive media, computer graphics, typography, package design and corporate identity. Students complete a fieldwork experience and create a portfolio. Illustration students concentrate on visual concepts, photography, printmaking, art history, graphic design, general illustration, digital illustration and advanced problems in visual communication. All students complete an illustration studio or fieldwork experience. Students in both programs must pass annual portfolio reviews. All students create a professional contribution exhibition.
Students in Marywood University's low-residency M. F. A. program may specialize in either Graphic Design or Illustration. This program is designed for artists and designers with several years of work experience. Students complete independent work away from campus and participate in study tours, lectures and two-week residency sessions on campus.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. and M. F. A. programs. Undergraduates must complete six credit hours of study in theology at this Catholic university. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are graduate assistantships.
