Scope of Program:
Graphic Design students at Miami University may choose a focus track as part of their program. Focus tracks include Art and Architecture, Business, Communication, Cultural Studies, Environmental Design, Interactive Design, Studio Art and Perception and Cognition. All students complete coursework in visual fundamentals, drawing, art history, 2D and 3D design, design history, typography, image, kinetic type and interactive design systems. All students must either create a capstone project or participate in the Highwire Brand Studios project. Students must pass a freshman year portfolio review in order to continue in the major.
Interactive Media Studies students may select this program as a co-major (second major). Concentrations in Digital Art and Design, Digital Game Studies, Digital Humanities and Social Science and Self-Designed Programs are available. Students complete coursework in web and interaction design, interactive business communications, 3D visualization and simulation, social media marketing, information and data visualization, human robot interaction, kinetic sculpture and innovative and disruptive thinking. All students must complete an internship, practicum or senior project.
Game Studies and Interactive Media Studies minors are available.
A portfolio is required with the application to the Graphic Design and Interactive Media Studies majors. Need-based and merit scholarships are available. Ohio residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
