Scope of Program:
Graphic Design students must complete "F. A. C. T. S." courses, which consist of foundation courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, art history, design principles, form and content and representational drawing. Students must pass a portfolio review in order to be admitted to the Graphic Design program. They continue their studies with studio work and classes in typography, intermedia, identity systems, publication design, motion graphics, web design and illustration. Students must pass a second portfolio review at the end of the sophomore year of study in order to register for upper division courses. All students participate in a professional studio experience and create a thesis and portfolio.
First-year freshmen are required to live in a residence hall or at home. Upper division Graphic Design students must purchase a laptop computer. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available. Scholarships are also available for Western Undergraduate Exchange students; these scholarships are awarded on the basis of standardized test scores.
