Scope of Program:
Murray State University offers three undergraduate art degrees. The Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees differ only in their University Studies (general education) requirements, while the Bachelor of Fine Arts program also requires more studio art courses. B. A. and B. S. candidates begin their studies with courses in drawing, life drawing, art history, 2D and 3D design. Students must pass a mid-degree portfolio review. Upper division coursework includes graphic design, digital art, professional practices and a practicum group exhibition, which includes a final portfolio review. If they wish, students may specialize in Graphic Design by taking studio elective courses in that subject area.
B. F. A. candidates take foundation courses in art history, drawing, 2D and 3D design and life drawing. All students must pass a mid-degree portfolio review. Upper division students who wish to specialize in Graphic Design concentrate on digital art, type and image, system design, Flash, poster design, type and image and layout. Students create a senior portfolio and present a B. F. A. practicum exhibition.
