Scope of Program:
Art students at The New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University begin their studies with Foundation coursework in color, drawing, 2D and 3D design, painting, art history and design issues and processes. Graphic Design students continue their studies with courses in graphic design history, web design, illustration, imaging, typography, computer applications in design and professional practice. Students must complete either an internship or thesis studio course. Students in the new Illustration program concentrate on painting, illustration process, illustration style, visual communications, computer applications in design and professional practice. Students participate in two senior seminars and complete a thesis studio course.
Students in the Master of Arts program must complete 30 hours of coursework in Graphic Design, although they may be required to take additional courses if their undergraduate degrees are not in art or design. Students focus on graphic design seminars and studio courses. All students complete an internship and create a thesis. Elective coursework may include web design, electronic publication design, corporate design, artist's books or digital photography.
A portfolio is required with the application. Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Eligible Massachusetts residents are encouraged to apply for state grants and scholarships.
