Scope of Program:
New Mexico State University's Bachelor of Creative Media program offers two tracks, Digital Film Making and Animation and Visual Effects. Digital Film Making students focus on storyboarding, sound design, animation, acting, theory and criticism, cinematography, editing and developing the creative project. Animation and Visual Effects students concentrate on drawing, storyboarding, light/shade/rendering, 2D and 3D animation, 2D composing and effects, character design and motion capture. Students in both tracks complete a senior project. Internships are available.
Graphic Design students complete coursework in drawing, 2D and 3D design, art history, studio art, photography, computer illustration, digital media, image processing, print media, graphic design history and professional practice. All students create a portfolio.
M. F. A. candidates in Graphic Design focus on art theory, criticism, historiography, design discourse, typography, digital illustration and concept development. All students must pass a portfolio review after the first and second semesters. Students must pass oral examinations and create a thesis exhibition.
Nonresidents living within a 135-mile radius of Las Cruces are eligible for discounted tuition. Merit, need-based and leadership scholarships are available. Out-of-state applicants may apply for tuition waivers, which reduce their tuition to in-state rates.
