Scope of Program:
From Hollywood blockbusters to independent film and even outside of the entertainment industry, 3D animation and visual effects are the secret ingredient in contemporary storytelling. The New York Film Academy (NYFA) offers you the hands-on training you need to pursue your passion and create new universes in an industry that is exploding across media.
New York Film Academy’s unique, hands-on approach to education allows animation students to focus on mastering the practical skills and the artistic depth required of professional visual effects artists and animators. NYFA sets itself apart with an emphasis on teaching the hands-on, technical, and artistic skill set that actively prepares students for life after the Academy, and helps them build a body of work through project-based experience.
The New York Film Academy’s award-winning faculty is full of professional animators and visual artists with years of experience, who are passionate about teaching and can share a wealth of industry secrets and practical knowledge. NYFA instructors have worked in groundbreaking films and bring their expertise to the table through an intensive, hands-on curriculum that is driven by the goal of preparing the next generation of animators and visual effects artists for the real world. Alumni have gone on to work on the cutting edge of the industry, from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” to Marvel films like “Thor” and “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” and beyond.
From the first week of studying 3D animation and visual effects at NYFA, students are working hands-on with the industry-standard tools such as Maya, ZBrush, Adobe Creative Suite, Houdini FX, and Nuke software, and they will learn in premier facilities while using professional-grade equipment.
The program is structured to mirror the workflow and pipeline of a professional production in the industry, which means that each student has the opportunity to graduate with:
1) Preparation for a competitive professional environment.
2) Knowledge directly applicable in current work field using the latest software and technology.
3) Practical skills developed from intensive discipline and practice.
4) Ability to deliver a project from the beginning to the end in the manner used in professional production.
The program is also dedicated to strengthening fundamental visual storytelling knowledge. Students dissect principles and techniques rooted in the real world and discover how they apply to a CG-generated world. This enables students to have the choice to mimic reality and photography or to create more stylized imagery.
