Scope of Program:
Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design offers traditional and online programs in design and the fine arts. The online 3D Animation program offers eight-week courses in digital imaging, storytelling, visual design, drawing, 3D computer lighting and material, scriptwriting and motion studies. A thesis is required. Traditional (classroom) Animation students take core courses in storytelling, scriptwriting, and business ethics, then concentrate either on 2D or 3D Animation. Students must create a portfolio and produce a thesis. 2D Animation student focus on drawing and acting for animation, stop motion, experimental animation, and advanced character animation. 3D Animation students take classes in computer animation, special effects, 3D character and production design and video editing.
Game Art students focus on 3D computer animation, motion studies, 3D character development, scriptwriting, game texture and lighting, scriptwriting and strategy and psychology in games. Students complete a game project and create a portfolio and demo reel. Student portfolios are reviewed during the sophomore and junior years.
Illustration students concentrate on pencil drawing, illustration media, illustrating literature, animal anatomy and drawing, life drawing and painting and landscape painting. Students may specialize in Children's Book Illustration. A Graduation Portfolio is required.
Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design offers rolling admissions. An interview and portfolio are required for admission. A limited number of scholarships for new and continuing students are available. Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design will lock in your tuition rate if you take courses in consecutive terms (fall, spring and summer each year); this approach will allow you to complete B. F. A. requirements in three years.
