Scope of Program:
San Francisco State University's popular Visual Communications Design program offers students the opportunity to study both graphic design and digital media. Students focus on graphic design, typography, digital media, design process, visual design literacy, computer graphics and research and development. State university system and university scholarships are available.
Applicants to San Francisco State University should be aware that state residents from local counties have admissions priority. Nonresidents (applicants from outside California) must meet a different set of entrance eligibility requirements. San Francisco State University's Visual Communication Design major is an “impacted major,” which means many more prospective students apply than can be accepted. Incoming students are designated "Pre-Major" and must complete two required pre-major courses with a grade of 3.0 or higher before they may apply to the program.
Non-residents pay a tuition rate of $372 per semester hour in addition to in-state registration fees. Need-based and merit-based scholarships are available.
