Founded in 1950 as part of the University of Alabama (UA) system, University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) serves nearly 10,000 students enrolled in over 100 areas of study across nine colleges. With more than 1,000 students, the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences houses the Department of Art, Art History, & Design, which offers a BFA in Art with a Digital Animation Concentration (DAC). A BFA with a Gaming and Animation Track has also been added.

The BFA in DAC consists of 120 credit hours of study, with 36 of the credit hours taken at the 300 level or higher. Classes cover storyboarding, modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, rigging, animating, rendering, producing short films, and designing & developing games. Highlights include Acting, Directing, Artificial Intelligence and Game Design, Contemporary Art & Issues, Intro to C Programming, Intro to Programming Using Java, Music Technology, Tech, Science & Human Values, Three-Dimensional Design, Two-Dimensional Design and Color Theory, and Writing for Visual Media.

Students will take concentration courses such as Animation: Modeling, Organic Modeling, Short Film I & II, Team Game Design I & II, Technical Arts, and 3D Animation. Professional Practices is also part of the program and includes preparation for the senior exit show or design portfolio. The course also covers developing written materials for careers in the visual arts and learning how to install and manage an art exhibition.
