University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) was founded in 1950 as part of the University of Alabama (UA) System. In 2020, the school set its sixth consecutive enrollment record when it enrolled 10,000 students in the fall. Since 2014, UAH enrollment has climbed 36%.

UAH offers 100 areas of study across nine colleges. With more than 1,000 students, the College of Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences houses the Department of Art, Art History, & Design, which offers digital animation courses as part of its BA in Art - Studio Concentration, Studio Art Minor, Game Production Minor, or BFA in Art - Digital Animation Concentration (DAC).

The BFA in DAC consists of 120 credit hours of study, with 36 of the credit hours taken at the 300 level or higher. Courses cover storyboarding, modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, rigging, animating, rendering, producing short films, and designing & developing games. Highlights include Animation, 3D Animation, Game Design, Game Scripting, Hard Surface Modeling, Organic Modeling, Short Film, Team Game Design, and Tech Arts.

A Portfolio Development course is also part of the program as well as Professional Practices, which includes preparation for the senior exit show. The course also covers developing written materials for careers in the visual arts and learning how to install and manage an art exhibition.
