University of Alaska Fairbanks

The College of Liberal Arts at University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) houses the Departments of Art, and Theatre & Film. Within the Departments are several programs for animators. Pathways include BA, BFA, and MFA degrees in Art or Studio Art, and a BA degree in Film and Performing Arts (BA FLPA). Program highlights include access to computer classrooms and labs in the UAF Fine Arts Complex and the Bunnell Building, studio courses, public lectures and workshops by visiting artists, and summer courses that take place outdoors.  

The BA, BFA, and MFA in Art/Studio Art Programs at University of Alaska Fairbanks offer a Concentration in Computer Art. Students in the undergraduate programs may choose an additional focus within digital arts. Examples include 3D Animation, Installation Art, and Digital Illustrations. Course highlights across all programs include 3D Animation, 2D Digital Design, SFX Up Your Video, Reel Workshop, Digital Video Editing: Adobe Suite, Previsualization and Preproduction, Computer Art, Color and Design, Directing Film/Video, Digital imaging, Practicum in Film Production, and Cross-Cultural Filmmaking.

Art BA and BFA students at University of Alaska Fairbanks will complete a portfolio, exhibition, and oral presentation. UAF Film BA and MFA students will complete a Thesis Project.

Founded in 1917, University of Alaska Fairbanks is Alaska’s only national  university.
