1. The Animation Workshop at VIA University College, Viborg, Denmark
Serving more than 20,000 students, VIA University College (VIA) is home to The Animation Workshop (TAW). Launched in 1988, TAW provides a number of paths to study animation. Options include bachelor’s degrees in Character Animation, Computer Graphic Arts, and Graphic Storytelling; and short-programs in 3D Character Animation, Animation Production Manager, Storyboard, and more. Degree program highlights include practice-based learning; curriculums that integrate internships; access to state-of-the-art facilities; and an accelerated three-year, three-month format for the Character Animation and Computer Graphic Arts programs.
Programs culminate with a final project and portfolio. Graduates have been hired at places such as Disney, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Lucasfilm, DreamWorks, Pixar, Illumination, and Cartoon Saloon.
2. The Royal Danish Academy, Copenhagen, Denmark
The Visual Game and Media Design MA program at The Royal Danish Academy provides the unique opportunity to collaborate on projects with students in the National Film School of Denmark and the National Academy of Digital Interactive Entertainment (DADIU) network. The curriculum for the program focuses on animation, motion graphics, digital games, 3D modeling, storytelling, and visual art. In addition to gaining experience through collaborations, MA students will complete a professional internship with an Academy partner or other company.
The program culminates with the Master’s Thesis Project and Exhibition course. Graduates can be found at places such as MPC, Unity, Magic Light Pictures, Lego, Copenhagen Bombay Children’s Animation, Ghost Ship Games, MovieStarPlanet (MSP), Invisible Walls, BetaDwarf Entertainment, and IO Interactive.
