1. Volda University College, Volda, Norway
Volda University College

The Animation bachelor’s degree program at Volda University College (VUC) is the oldest in the Nordic region. Accepting just 12 students each year, the program is also the most prestigious in the region. The curriculum for the program is studio-based, with a focus on individual and team-based projects combined with lectures and mentoring. Other program benefits include access to state-of-the-art labs, studios, and production facilities; workshop; and internship opportunities. The program culminates with a market-ready animated film. 

Many VUC Animation graduates have gone on to launch their own successful studios, while others have secured positions at places such as Qvisten Animation—Norway’s largest animation studio, Disney, DreamWorks, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Insomniac Games, Raven Software, Mikrofilm, Animaskin, Somnium Animation Studios, Oclin, and Storm Studios. 

2. Noroff Instituttet, Kristiansand, Norway
Noroff Instituttet

Noroff Instituttet (Noroff) provides several paths to study animation. Options include the Bachelor in Interactive Media (Animation); higher professional degree programs in 3D Art and Games Technology with Interactive or Content Creation specializations; and the recently launched Digital Animation, and Game Art and Level Design short programs leading to a certificate. The 3D Art and Games Technology program qualifies students to apply for the bachelor’s degree programs at Noroff partner institutions such as Teesside University, Deakin University, and Southampton Solent University. 

All students enjoy access to state-of-the-art production facilities and internship opportunities. Programs culminate with a final project and portfolio. Graduates can be found at places such as Mikrofilm, Storm Studios, Huper Games, Somnium Animation Production, Animaskin, Qvisten Animation, Snowcastle Games, and Dirtybit. 

3. Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, Hamar, Norway
Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences

The Faculty of Film, TV and Games at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN) is home to the Game School. Within the school is a Game Art and Animation program with specializations in 3D Animation; Digital Art and Motion Design; and 3D Art and Generalization. Leading to a bachelor’s degree, this three-year program features hands-on projects; access to state-of-the-art production facilities; and professional internships. The program culminates with a final project and presentation.

Graduates have secured roles at places such as Qvisten Animation, Funcom, Storm Studios, Mikrofilm, VJUS Film Production, Silent Games, EON Reality, Pearlmill, and SOFTGAMES. 

4. Kristiania University of Applied Sciences, Oslo, Norway
Kristiania University of Applied Sciences

Kristiania University of Applied Sciences (Kristiania) houses a Computer Arts program with specializations in Animation, 3D Graphics, Visual Effects, and Game Design. Leading to a bachelor's degree in just three years, the program highlights expert faculty from places and productions such as Funcom, Twilight, Storm Studios, and The Hobbit; guest lecturers; state-of-the-art, real-world production environments; group projects; industry events; internship opportunities with major Scandinavian studios; and international exchange programs. The program culminates with a professional showreel. Graduates can be found at places such as Storm Studios, Funcom, and Qvisten Animation.
