1. Universidade Lusófona, Lisbon, Portugal
The Cinema and Media Arts Department at Universidade Lusófona provides two paths to study animation: the Digital Animation bachelor which explores 2D, 3D, and traditional animation techniques, and Animation Arts masters, which focuses on producing and directing animated films. Across programs, graduates are prepared to pursue leadership roles in animated filmmaking, VR/AR, animation research, video mapping, animation research, and art education.
2. Faculty of Design, Technology, and Communication (IADE), Lisbon, Portugal
Faculty of Design, Technology, and Communication (IADE) is home to one of Portugal’s first animation programs. Known today as the Bachelor’s in Global Animation, the program emphasizes the fine arts (drawing, digital painting, illustration), with a focus on 2D animation, character development, and 3D and 3D animation. The program culminate with a final project and professional portfolio. IADE graduates enjoy an 97% employment rate. Animation alumni are prepared to pursue advanced roles in the animation, live-action film, and game design industries.
3. Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon, Portugal
The School of Arts at Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) houses an Animation master’s degree program. A major component of the program is a mandatory 24-week internship. Through partnership agreements, students can intern at places such as Garage Films, Lightbox, Utopia Films, and Pix Mix. The program culminates with the Portfolio/Showreel and Dissertation/Final Project courses. Graduates are prepared to pursue leadership roles in the entertainment, games, advertising, and other creative industries.
