Universidade Lusófona houses the Cinema and Media Arts Department. Within the department are two paths to study animation including the Digital Animation bachelor’s and the Animation Arts master’s. Across programs, highlights include courses led by award-winning animators; lab-based coursework; multidisciplinary curriculums; 24/7 access to state-of-the-art production facilities, including a motion capture studio; and internship opportunities. 2. Faculty of Design, Technology, and Communication (IADE), Lisbon, Portugal
Faculty of Design, Technology, and Communication (IADE) houses one of the first animation programs in Portugal. The specialized Bachelor's in Global Animation combines 2D/3D animation, character development, and storytelling, with fine arts, including drawing, illustration, and digital painting. Available in English, the program also highlights project-based learning; access to state-of-the-art production facilities; internships; and career development. The program culminates with a showreel and professional portfolio.
IADE has an additional option for animators seeking an advanced degree. The Animation and Digital Creation master's degree is a studio-based program that highlights immersive labs; real-world projects with students from other disciplines; access to multimedia labs and state-of-the-art production facilities; and networking opportunities. The program culminates with a final project and portfolio.
Across programs, graduates have secured positions at places such as Sorcerer Animation, wTVision, Paradox Interactive, Fudge Animation Studios, Ajax Creative, BlackBox Strategies, and Appspace.
3. Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon, Portugal
Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) is home to the School of Arts, which houses a specialized Animation master’s degree. The program highlights a mandatory 24-week internship. Through partnership agreements, students have opportunities to intern at places such as Lightbox, Utopia Films, Pix Mix, and Garage Films. Other program highlights include collaborative projects with Multimedia Art, Cinema, Sound Design, and Audiovisual students; workshops and seminars; and access to state-of-the-art facilities.
