1. ChungKang College of Cultural Industries, Icheon, South Korea
ChungKang College of Cultural Industries

ChungKang College of Cultural Industries (ChungKang) houses the School of Animation, which has a three-year program that serves 180 students. Upon completion of the program, students can advance to the one-year BA program, which accommodates 50 artists. The entire program is multidisciplinary, workshop intensive, and studio- and project-based. Students will study animation, game design, cartooning, directing, post-production, and planning.  

Course examples for the program include 12 Basic Principles of Animation; Experimental Animation; 3D Rigging; Matchmove Compositing; Visual Development; 3D Animation and Character Production; CFX Simulation; 2D Animation Production Workshop; 3D Human Modeling; Storyboard; and Digital Animation Techniques. 

Other program features include courses taught by industry professionals; access to state-of-the-facilities, including the largest animation studio in Korea; a sound recording studio and a render farm; a tutoring program; opportunities to gain experience through mandatory local and international internships; independent study opportunities; and portfolio development. 

In the final year of the program, students will develop their thesis project and presentation leading to the Animation BA. Graduates are prepared to pursue roles in animation, games, film, television, and advertising, among others. 

2. Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea

The School of Global Arts at Chung-Ang University (CAU) houses the Department of Games and Animation. Within the department is a Games and Animation BA program that prepares students for careers in traditional animation, computer animation, interaction design, digital illustration, game art, special effects, and design education. CAU also houses the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia and Film (GSAIM), home to the master’s degree programs in Animation, and Engineering Animation. Graduates are prepared to pursue leadership roles in entertainment, game design, and other creative industries. 

3. Hongik University, Seoul, South Korea

Hongik University is home to the College of Design and Arts, which houses the School of Film and Animation. Within the school is the Department of Film and Animation, which provides an Animation bachelor’s degree program that explores 2D and 3D animation, motion graphics, virtual production, advertising (commercials), drama, and music videos. The program culminates with Film/Animation Graduation Project. Graduates are prepared to pursue advanced roles in animation, live-action film, game design, advertising, interactive design, and music video production.  

4. Korea National University of Arts, Seoul, South Korea
Korea National University of Arts

The School of Film, TV and Multimedia at Korea National University of Art (K-Arts) launched in 1995. The school houses the Animation Department, which has both bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Animation. Programs cover 2D animation, storytelling, 3D animation, and new media. Across programs, students will give several presentations and present a short animated film each year at the annual show held in November. Graduates are prepared to pursue advanced roles in animation, live-action film, games, television production, advertising, and new media. 

5. Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea
Sejong University

The Department of Creative Studies at Sejong University houses a Comics and Animation major that allows students to focus in either area. The Animation track helps students develop advanced skills in all areas of 2D and 3D animation, concept design, visual effects (VFX), storytelling, and virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR). Graduates are prepared to pursue roles in these areas, as well as film and television production.
