1. ChungKang College of Cultural Industries, Icheon, South Korea
The Animation School at ChungKang College of Cultural Industries (ChungKang) is home to Korea’s largest animation production studio. With 24/7 access, the studio houses of state-of-the-art stop-motion studios, group and private workspaces, the AI Project Lab, and a sound room. Other Animation School highlights include live online tutoring sessions by professionals from places such as DreamWorks, Pixar, Electronic Arts (EA), and Sony Pictures Animation; competency critiques; participation in CK Animation Festival; a workshop-intensive curriculum; job mentoring; and campus recruiting events.
ChungKang Animation School students can earn an Animation BA that culminates with a thesis project and presentation. Graduates can be found at places such as Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Pixar, Cartoon Saloon, DreamWorks, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Disney, Weta FX, DNEG, and Bethesda.
2. Korea National University of Arts, Seoul, South Korea
The School of Film, TV and Multimedia at Korea National University of Art (K-Arts) houses the Department of Animation. Within the department are two paths to study animation including bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Animation. Programs combine studies in 2D and 3D animation, new media, storytelling, and the latest industry software and tools. Other program highlights include courses led by accomplished filmmakers and animators; access to ultramodern production facilities; and the opportunity to complete a professional internship.
All students will present a short animated film (in every year of the program) at annual show held in November. Graduates have been hired at places such as Disney, Netflix, Tencent Games, Nexon, SAMG Animation, NetEase Games, CJ ENM, Kakao Entertainment, and Naver Webtoon (Studio LICO).
3. Hongik University, Seoul, South Korea
The College of Design and Arts at Hongik University is home to the School of Film and Animation. Within the school is the Department of Film and Animation, which houses a multidisciplinary Animation program. Leading to a bachelor's degree, the curriculum for the program explores 2D and 3D animation, advertising, motion graphics, visual storytelling, music, virtual production, and drama. Courses are hands-on, with opportunities to complete an internship or other experiential learning activities.
The program culminates with Film and Animation Graduation Project. Graduates are prepared to pursue advanced roles at places such as Naver Webtoon (Studio LICO), Ubisoft, and Sunwoo Entertainment.
4. Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea
The School of Global Arts at Chung-Ang University (CAU) houses the Department of Games and Animation. Within the department is a Games and Animation BA program that allows students to gain hands-on experience in the CAU Character Animation Lab. CAU is also home to the Graduate School of Advanced Imaging Science, Multimedia and Film (GSAIM), which houses master’s degree programs in Animation, and Engineering Animation. Across programs, students benefit have access to state-of-the-art production studios and labs; instructors who are experts in the fields of animation, games, and filmmaking; and internship opportunities.
Programs culminate with a final project and thesis (master's degree). Graduates have secured roles at places such as Animation Studio 38, Tak Toon Enterprise, Giantstep, Dexter Studios, NHN Corporation, Meta Oloji, Anyzac, Sticky Hands, and AI Research studio (AIRI).
